Bauchi Government Launches Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security
The Government of Bauchi State has today, launched the State Action Plan (SAP) on the localization of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325) on Women, Peace and Security agenda, today in Bauchi.
At a event hosted at the Banquet Hall of the Government House and organized by International Alert, dignitaries delivered keynote addresses, endorsing the investments made by the people of Bauchi and other partners.
The Country Representative for UN Women to Nigeria and the ECOWAS, Ms. Comfort Lamptey as well as the Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Knut Eiliv Lein praised all partners and collaborators for a job well done, in developing the document which provides the framework for the increase of women in decision-making at all levels regards peace and security in the State.
Endorsements
The Governor highlighted the roles women played in managing the Covid-19 pandemic in Bauchi State, and believes they have shown that they have the capacity to lead where provided equal footing, to deliver.
Also, UN Women Country Representative to Nigeria, Comfort Lamptey, highlighted the holistic approach to localising the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, and welcomes the collaboration and partnership between project partners and local collaborators, in delivering a State Action Plan that speaks to the needs of the people, in ensuring no one is left behind.
The Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Knut Eiliv Lein in his goodwill message said, the Government of Norway, is committed to supporting the people and government of Nigeria, in mainstreaming gender, and building a society where everyone participates in keeping the peace, and resolving conflict without violence.
By launching the policy document, the Governor of the State, Sen. Bala Mohammed, increased the number of States with SAPs in Nigeria from 12 to 13. He called on the need to continue the strengthening of the capacity of women in Bauchi State, to manage conflict, and increase their participation in governance and the peace and security architecture particularly at the grassroot levels.
